After 44 days I fell off the drawing/posting horse. I’m back on again. I’m going to play a little catch up in my posting and just post 2 a day  for the next week or so until I have all my drawings on the blog-o.

The drawing people trials begin again. You know, I never tried to draw anyone until my sophmore year in high school… in comparison I’ve been drawing plants since I was a little kiddo and animals since I was 8 or so. I have a few years of catch up work on portraits, people, and face type stuff. Bah. Sketch sketch sketch, practice, practice, practice.

I took yesterday off at the office to work in my studio. I’m working on a piece for the Beyond Audubon juried show in Chicago. Let’s see if I can get it done and images sent in by the 10th. I just learned about it last weekend.  Go go go!

Drawing knitting is freaking hard. It’s like a big smooshy organic, geometric structure with so much texture you just get lost in it. Sure I could render every single stitch, but how do you get the idea across that it’s knit fabric without doing that? How do you do a 10 minute study of knitting and give the impression of those stitches without representing each one. I’m excited to find something so challenging. I’m going to set up a still life at home and do a larger/longer study of it.

I just got my order from JetPens.com in the mail yesterday. I’m in mechanical + fancy pens heaven right now.

My camera battery is charging right now, when it’s ready to go, I’ll snap a few pictures of the whole lot and show them off.

Hey, today is day 20 with no misses. I’m on the cusp of three weeks. I think I can keep this up no problem.

I cleaned up my home studio area this morning and started work on Beef it’s what’s for dinner (food chain series) piece again. I love that steer and it’s about time I finish up the crochet component. I finished the first round of single crochet through all the outline stitching and started on the second. It’s going to be an interesting challenge increasing correctly so a steer outline goes into a lacy rectangle. I love the way it’s looking. I’ll take a picture and share when I get a few more rows done.

We had our first Ames C.art Drawing meet up tonight. It was so much fun! I drew a little knit pin cushion with a B4 pencil, water color pencils, and a white pen. I really enjoyed the evening drawing away and that spread of drawing supplies was so awesome. I wish I could have them spread out like that all the time in my studio.

We are going to meet again next month and then every other week after that. Everyone is welcome. The idea is to encourage drawing as a daily practice. The first drawing club is Thursday, February 4th from 630-9pm. I’m hoping it will be at the Octagon again, but it might be somewhere else, we aren’t sure yet.
