This past year Diane of the CraftyPod and I decided to collaborate on a short and sweet little ebook on what to do with those leftovers related to giving gifts… 5 months later this amazing ebook has turned in to a 63 page resource on paper making,

collaging with fabric,

and combining that annoying curling ribbon we all use with yarn to make a knit basket that actually stands up straight and a market bag that won’t stretch down to your knees after a few uses.

I’m so excited and thrilled and relieved and filled with joy to birth this beast out into the world. It was of course about triple the work either of us anticipated with many bumps, bruises and swearing (at least on my end) to get it finished. And I’m so happy we did! Because. It. Is. Awesome!

I’m going to be totally conceded here and say that this is the sweetest ebook ever…. okay I can’t be that conceded because I totally loved Knitting Game by Lee and Diane’s Craft Blog series of ebooks. How about I say that this is just one more awesome ebook in a long line of awesome ebooks put out by the newly annointed authority on crafty ebooks: CraftyPod Publishing!

It was so wonderful working with Diane, she was great to throw ideas around with, she was a great editor, she’s a wonderful friend and inspiration!

You can pick up this awesome beast of a craft ebook in the CraftyPod Publishing Shop starting now!

And if you order it between now and Friday 12th, 11:59pm – you will get a pretty sweet chance at winning one of these DecoArt paint sets.

I finally finished remaking my knitting basket. In some ways I think it would have been easier to just take apart the frame too so I could machine stitch the whole thing, slip it on, a little glue, and done. But that’s okay, it was a fun experience and I enjoyed the 5-6 hours of hand stitching

You can read all the posts here, here, and here.

So what is in my knitting basket anyway? The beret hat from knit scene (pattern I wrote, but I sent them the first one so I’m making one for myself), sock project (simple wavey lace), fingerless mittens (compost critters from clm), 2 scarves (one from the april clm, one needing tassles), temari ball, embroidery sampler – and it looks nice and not overflowing. Perfect! This basket is so nice and I’m so happy I took the time to fix it up.

And it’s not in the knitting basket because it’s getting too big, but the sweater is a wip too. And I’m happy to report I’m just about finished with the first sleeve. Oh I just can’t wait to get it finished and wear it around (I know, I know, it most likely will be too hot, but that’s okay, maybe I’ll turn up the air conditioner and wear it around for a couple of hours, haha.

I went to the library yesterday and loaded up on great books. I’m going to snap some photos and I’ll share them with you tomorrow.

More on fixing things. It’s one part trying to find projects to work on that don’t involve me buying new supplies, it’s one part trying to get rid of clutter, and it’s one part trying to make the things I love last a long time or look nicer. I’m happy to report my shoes are not falling off any more so that is really great!

And tonight I took the first steps towards getting my knititng basket fixed up so it sits tall and proud instead dilapitated and pithetic looking.

You can read the details on Craft Leftovers, but basically I ripped out all the seams and replaced the missing post. Very good. Now I need to find the perfect fabric for the outer fabric and the liner. I know I want the outer fabric to be the same as what I used for my chair, but I’m not sure about the liner fabric yet. I’m going to dig around tonight and work on it on Saturday.

Next on the basket list is an actual woven basket. At the beginning of the month I took a workshop at the Rose Tree Fiber shop and made this great little basket:

I need to trim down some of the reed still, but I’m really happy with the way it turned out. I put all of my cloth napkins and my pot holders in it and it just looks so cute on the counter.

And then is the next basket! My friend Susan gave me a ton of her basketry supplies and I told myself after taking the workshop that after I finished all my deadlines I would reward myself by getting a rim for the basket I want to make and use up some of these leftovers making it. And so today and the yarn shop I bought a 12″ X 12″ sqare rim (with rounded corners) and I’m going to make a nice project basket for myself that will sit either on my utility shelf and hold all my sewing projects or under the side table and hold all my knitting/crochet projects. I haven’t decided yet.

I’m going to attempt to do a twill basket, but we will see how that goes. I might end up doing a plain weave instead.

++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

In other non basket related news while I have worked out yet this week I have been riding my bike every day and making sure not to avoid hills and that has felt really good. I’m on day two of no caffeine and going strong. I started to get a headache today in the late afternoon so I took a nap and feel super awesome since waking up.

I did not do the thursday sketch challenge and am a bit annoyed with myself for that because it was the ridiculous case of forgetting to finish my sketch yesterday when I finally had the time. I’m having some people over tomorrow for dinner and we are going to knit and paint and collage and crochet and so I plan on working on it then.

I have been making some progress on some of my knitting wips this week and I’ll post some pictures of those tomorrow.

See you all later!
Kristin
