Drawing Daily: Day 7

Drawing Daily day 7

So over on Zen Habits, Leo talks a lot about habit building. He has this great post called “The Habit Change Cheatsheet – 29 ways to successfully ingrain a behavior” and I’m really giving it a go with drawing daily. Point #9 that he makes is to identify your triggers. I think he’s talking mainly about replacing an old habit with a good one, but I think it really works with forming new habits. If you really want it to be a habit, find something that will trigger you to remember to do it.

For instance, with drawing daily, I’m lining it up with my breakfast routine. So each day I make breakfast, eat, then sip on my coffee. Now my plan is that every day after I finish eating, I’ll draw while sipping on my coffee.

Another habit I’m trying to establish is working out in the morning 5 days a week. I’m associating going to the office with working out. Am I going to the office today? Yep, then I’m working out too. It seems like a no brainer, but associating new habits with established routines really does help them become just another part of your routine.

Here is to day 7! One week of drawing every day!

Not yet. I’m going to shoot for a fresh start on Monday. Really let myself recover. I don’t want to get all worn out again. I am feeling so much better though!
